Light weight mineral water bottle with, 30/25 tst, 26.7 tst, & 28 tst neck.

Why this neck is developed?

Light weighting has been occurring since PET bottles were produced in the beverage market. The target has always been to reduce cost without reduction in bottle performance and consumer appeal.

PET bottles are consistently reworked to get the optimum weight bottle without affecting performance.

Top load, handling requirements, filling requirements & capping are the main considerations.

Currently there are variety of necks are in use, in local market, which mostly weighs above 3.47 gm, and suitable cap weight above 1.6 gm

Consumer has to pay for this excessively high weight packaging cost.

Consumption of Mineral water is increasing very fast, due to no. of factors, like awareness of health, quality of the water available in most public places, increased disposable income with middle class families, frequent travelling requirements due to business demand, etc.

Consumption water has gone over three times in last five years.

This high consumption of materials increases pressure on the waste management system. Currently in India most of the PET bottles end up in the land filling. Recycling of PET bottles is an attractive growing business, however, very little percentage of bottles are recycled locally, mainly due to the problems associated with collection, transportation and effective cleaning and separation process equipments. The reliable process equipments originated from European manufacturer are exorbitantly costly, and the cost is escalated mainly due to the duty structure, where in the duty is charged on the landed price, means duty is charged on the freight also. So we concentrated on the reduction of PET bottle weight by reducing the weight of the neck area and closure. Reduction in the neck weight and closure does not affect in any way the bottle performance.

A small savings in the neck and closure has a very high savings potential, when the volumes are very high.
Savings achieved from light weight neck

Each one gram saved on a pre-form used for a market of 100 million bottles saves,
1000 tonnes of PET or in terms of value Rs. 7,000,000 of costs for PET resin at Rs.70000/tonne.
About 70,000 kWh of energy for pre-form moulding
2670 kWh of energy for pre-form heating for blow moulding.
36 tonnes of CO2 being generated  27.2 tonnes of Carbon being used
Apart from the cost savings, reduced neck weight also gives environmental benefit and improvement in productivity.
